Private adult circumcision in the UK typically costs between £700 and £1,500, with simple cases from £700 and more complex cases, such as circumcision with BXO or revision work, costing up to around £2,000. At our adults-only clinics in East London and Cambridge, prices are fixed from £700, with all-inclusive packages from £950 and no hidden fees.

This guide explains our prices, what affects the cost, what every quote should include, and how private treatment compares with the NHS.

What’s included in the price

A clear quote should leave nothing to add later. Our all-inclusive packages cover the preoperative consultation, the procedure under local anaesthetic, the surgeon’s fee, follow-up, and six weeks of aftercare with a 24/7 telephone line.

Individual procedure prices cover the surgery and aftercare; a face-to-face consultation is £250, or it is included when you choose a package.

Watch for hidden costs

When comparing prices, look beyond the headline figure.

At large private hospitals, a guide price often excludes the consultation, the surgeon’s and anaesthetist’s fees, diagnostic tests and follow-up, so the final bill can be far higher than first quoted, sometimes £1,500 to £3,000 or more, particularly where a general anaesthetic and an overnight stay are involved.

Our pricing is fixed and all-inclusive, so the price you are quoted is the price you pay.

What affects the cost

Several factors explain why adult circumcision prices vary across the UK:

  • Technique — glue and stapler methods use single-use devices and consumables, so they cost a little more than traditional stitches.
  • The condition treated — a straightforward circumcision costs less than one involving BXO, scarring or revision of a previous circumcision, which take more time and skill.
  • Anaesthetic — local anaesthetic, as we use, keeps costs and recovery down; a general anaesthetic at a hospital adds significantly to the price.
  • Location — private healthcare in London typically costs 30% to 50% more than elsewhere in the UK.
  • What the aftercare includes — a complete price should cover follow-up and aftercare, not just the operation.
  • Surgeon experience — consultant-led care from an experienced specialist is reflected in the price and the outcome.

Cost by technique

  • Glue circumcision — from £700. The most popular modern method; medical glue seals the skin with no stitches to remove.
  • ZSR stapler circumcision — £780. A quick, low-bleeding technique using a single-use device.
  • Dissolvable stitches. A traditional approach, used for selected and revision cases.

Cost by condition

  • Phimosis (tight foreskin) — priced as a standard circumcision from £700, unless additional work is needed.
  • BXO / cracked foreskin — £760, or the all-inclusive Gold package at £1,100, which includes a biopsy.
  • Revision of a previous circumcision — £975, as these cases take more time and experience.
  • Tight frenulumfrenuloplasty from £500, alone or alongside circumcision.

NHS vs private cost

Circumcision is free on the NHS if it is medically necessary, but it is not funded for personal, cultural, religious or cosmetic reasons, and waits are commonly six to twelve months or longer.

Private treatment has a cost but removes the wait and lets you choose your surgeon and technique. For a full comparison of eligibility, waiting times and cost, see our guide to NHS vs private circumcision.

Does insurance cover adult circumcision?

In the UK, private health insurance covers only therapeutic (medically necessary) circumcision, not procedures carried out for personal, cultural or religious reasons.

Even where a policy applies, you will usually still need a GP referral, so check with your insurer before booking.

Frequently asked questions

How much does adult circumcision cost in the UK?

Privately, it typically costs between £700 and £1,500. At our clinics, prices are fixed from £700, with all-inclusive packages from £950.

Is circumcision cheaper privately or on the NHS?

The NHS is free if you qualify medically, but waits are long and you cannot choose your surgeon or technique. Private treatment has a cost but is faster and gives you that choice. See NHS vs private.

Does the price include the consultation?

Our all-inclusive packages include the consultation. Booked on its own, a face-to-face consultation is £250.

Why do circumcision prices vary so much?

Price depends on the technique, the condition treated, the anaesthetic, the location, and what aftercare is included. Hospital guide prices may also exclude fees that are added later.

What should a circumcision quote include?

A complete quote should cover the consultation, the procedure, the surgeon’s fee, follow-up and aftercare, with no extras added afterwards.

Does insurance cover it?

Only for medically necessary (therapeutic) circumcision, and usually with a GP referral. Cosmetic, cultural and religious procedures are not covered.
